RuPaul Charles recently marked the end of the Halloween with a lighthearted video. In the video, he showed his unique approach to ending the spooky season and welcoming Christmas vibes while also promoting his new album, Essential Christmas.

RuPaul Welcomes The Christmas Season in a New Video

In this short video, RuPaul is walking to a table next to his home’s pool, where there is a pumpkin. He picks up the pumpkin, kisses it, and playfully throws it into the pool. This is his way of bidding farewell to Halloween in a fun way.

As the pumpkin makes its splash, RuPaul is then handed a small potted pine tree plant by an off-screen assistant. Placing the pine tree on the table, RuPaul signified the start of the Christmas season in his unique, iconic way. To further enhance the mood, the background music switches to his new version of the single “I Just Can’t Wait (‘Til Christmas).”

RuPaul’s timing was impeccable, as this playful video was released in line with his latest album, Essential Christmas. If you didn’t know, Essential Christmas was released a few weeks ago. This 12-track holiday album features three new songs and some of RuPaul’s most upbeat and fun holiday originals to date. The tracks include tracks like “Jingle Dem Belles” (featuring Big Freedia) and “Hey Sis, It’s Christmas.”

The album’s lead single, “Baby Doll,” is a collaboration with his longtime writing partner, Freddy Minano. It brings a fresh, funky vibe inspired by 50s doo-wop and Beyonce’s “Single Ladies.”

RuPaul Opens Up About Why Christmas is Special

Essential Christmas also includes reimagined versions of classics like “Brand New Year” and “I Just Can’t Wait (‘Til Christmas),” adding a modern twist while staying true to the spirit of the season. RuPaul’s unique vision for the album is a reflection of his own journey and how Christmas evolved for him over the years.

“Growing up, we didn’t have much money, so Christmas always reflected our dour financial situation. But when I met Georges in 1994, I began to redefine what Christmas means to me.’ RuPaul said. “Christmas became fun, and loving and friggin’ hilarious. Essential Christmas is a collection of that same spirit—the most fun and festive holiday songs I’ve ever recorded.”

This release is part of a busy year for RuPaul, who has been juggling numerous projects, including hosting and producing RuPaul’s Drag Race and various international spin-offs, hosting a game show, and now releasing a memoir titled House of Hidden Meanings. In the memoir, RuPaul delves into his personal journey and the challenges of balancing his public persona with his private life.
